Call Centers. No Thank you.

As of today, I have officially decided I never again want to work in a call center again after this summer. And I feel really bad for being mean to people at places like Tmobile when I've called their Customer Service and they don't tell me what I want to hear. Okay, I really don't feel that bad because I'm always right, but thats besides that point. For some reason today at work, everyone that has called in has been so snippy. Yes, I realize that the dealership you bought the warranty from didn't send us your money and act like they don't know whats going on, but can I do anything about that? No. I'm just the lowly processing representative who cancels and transfers policies. I can't magically make 5000$ appear. You threaten to sue the company and put my name in the lawsuit? Have fun. It's being bought out anyways. Plus I don't see you getting very far with me in that lawsuit by saying "The girl who answered the phone didn't write a check for my policy. Send her to jail!". I just don't see why people feel the need to yell at me, especially when I tell them "I honestly have no idea what to do, I just started here and I'm not trained to deal with it. I can transfer you to a supervisor if you'd like". Some people are way friendly. Sometimes too friendly. But I can handle that. But when they yell? Oh boy. I either wanna yell back. or cry. One of those two things. I'm excited to go back to Utah and work at the Clinic. Yes I still answer phones. But at least those people are interesting, and just start telling me their problems.

On the bright side, I got an awesome free lunch today, AND I won 25$ in the weekly drawing (who says showing up 5 minutes early every day doesn't count.). Not quite as good as the 50$ I won 2 weeks ago..But you know, every bit is appreciated :-)

Stalker Log

On the side of my blog, I have a log that tells me about the visitors to my blogs. It doesn't say names, of course, but it says things like internet browser, OS, approximate location, and the source that they came from. Most of the time it's just people coming from their own blog, but often there are google searches that bring people to my blog. I look through it every day or so, and I find it humorous just how many people come to my blog by searching for "Marrying a Dentist" "How to Marry a Dentist", and other derivatives of that. I'm sure they are disappointed once they come to my site, realizing that it is not a guide on how to snatch up a dentist (because trust me, if I knew how to do that, I would have tried it out already), but on my dental issues. haha Really, do people really think that there is some kind of guide out there telling you ways to marry a dentist. Or maybe they are trying to find a dating website that only allows dentists on it. There probably is. Though, I guess I can give most people the benefit of the doubt...Some of the things I've google searched might make people wonder how sane I am (hey, sometimes you get curious about something and want to know an answer!)

Another Blonde Moment...brought to you by me

So if you are my friend on facebook, you may have seen my status a few days ago about how I almost ran into a phone booth because I was looking at myself in a window. No, that's not my blonde moment, that's just a vain moment. This next one is kind of humorous to me.

I work on the third floor of the Granite Building downtown. I got on the elevator to go down to the patio level to take my lunch break. So I get in, press the button. And wait. The elevator doesn't move. I stand there for probably like 30 seconds. Still doesn't move. So of course I start freaking out in my mind, convincing myself that the elevator is about to plunge me to an untimely death any second (maybe I shouldn't ride the Terror of Terror at California Adventure?). Then I look up at the display that says what floor you are on, and then the button I pressed. I pressed the button for the floor I was already on. Yeah, sometimes I wonder how I got into college. :)

Shine On

(The title of this has nothing to do with this post...It just happens to be the song I'm listening to and I can't think of anything better :-D)

So it's been awhile since I've updated everyone on my exciting life, besides talking about my job. Granted, that's basically what my life is. But that's okay. I'm bored, and at work, with nothing to do. So Time for a post!!

Fourth of July:

My mom, dad, and Michael went to the Rockies game for the game and the fireworks. I'm not the diehard fan that my parents are, so I was about done with the game after...oh the 3rd inning? It was still pretty fun. The fireworks were spectacular! It took forever for them to start though, because half the stadium had to herd down to the field to watch the field (something about it not being safe for people to be directly under the place they were set off...Righttt). And I tend to not be the most patient person...so that was exciting. It was fun though. I loved how they played all these great patriotic songs. You couldn't help but be proud to be American after that! There was this huge Mormon family in front of us (First clue that they were Mormon? All the girls --sisters, cousins, whatever-- were in matching outfits and had homemade bows..not saying only Mormon's do it..but I think LDS people love doing this moreso than most). They were fun to watch, especially the super cute kids!

Family Reunion:
This July was a family reunion for my Mom's side of the family. Usually I don't entirerly look forward to these because well, no one I knew was there. But this time all my siblings (except for Daniel and Charbel :( ) were able to come! It was also my parent's 30th Anniversary, so that was cool to be able to celebrate that with them! My sister, Diana, ordered a cake from all of us that was really cool, and then we had them play a newlywed-esque game. They did awesome on it! The reunion was in Rock Springs, ID, which is a rinky dink little town about 2 hours from Rexburg. Despite being teeny tiny, it was way fun and cute! We spent a large portion of the time at the pool. Well, there were these three platforms for people to jump off of. And they were huge. The day before we went Brandon was like "okay everyone has to go off this" and I agreed, not meaning it at al. But apparently saying I would was signing my death wish. The next day, Diana and I ended up going to the top of it (you have to sign a waiver to jump off...pretty sure anything you have to sign a waiver for isn't safe). I was planning on backing out at the last second. But that didn't happen. And Diana and I both jumped off. That was the most painful decision of my life. My tailbone has hurt ever since. Granted I've gotten a little used to it so it doesn't bother me as much, but it was so not fun. I tried to get my mom to let me have some of her vicodin..but that didn't work. I honestly don't think I've been in more pain! And Diana felt the same way, so I'm not just a wimp! But hey, at least I can say I did it..twice (yes, I'm dumb and did it again even though it hurt so bad the first time..It wasn't quite so painful the next time). Overall, it was a great trip and it was fun to see all my family and visit with them! (and just so ya'll can see what I jumped off of, here ya go..the top one:)

Work:
I've officially decided I really don't like working. But despite that, I do have a pretty good job. It's really relaxed, and isn't too overly hard. But I get paid bank, so it's totally worth it. And they give us yummy food a lot! Nothing's better than that. Today they announced that they were having to turn the company over to another company because of the economy, so everyone is losing their jobs, but luckily that is not til I'm back in Provo. I feel bad for everyone that works here though. They did give the people who answer calls the option of moving to Chicago to work the new company..haha.

Random stuff:

Megan comes home on Thursday! I'm so super excited! I forgot to mention that I got to see her while I was in Idaho. That was so fun :) We went swimming, walked around for awhile downtown, got some yummy square ice cream from Farr's, and then went to the Lava Hot Springs museum...and made fun of the yearbooks they had. But I'm way excited for her to be home the rest of the summer! Cortney comes home for 2 weeks before fall semester begins, so that's exciting news too! Yay for not being alone!

My phone broke. I guess there was water damage from awhile ago, and it finaly kicked the dust. I luckily was due for an upgrade on my phone, so I'll be getting this beautiful little thing. Hopefully that'll last a long time. I got a great price on it though! But I won't be getting it for who knows how long..I didn't realize you could go into the store and upgrade, so I ordered a phone online. The wrong one. And it got sent to Provo. I finally just intercepted it there and had them send it back to Tmobile, but apparently it takes them up to a month to credit your account. Agh. Oh well!

My flip flop broke at work today. It has been a very sad day. My favorite pair broke when we were in the river in Lava Hot Springs, so I bought a pair of cheapo ones. They proved to be just that very quickly.

My really good friend, Jeremy, came out to visit me this past weekend. It was a lot of fun (even though I felt sick the entire weekend :(. We played some fun games with Diana and Brandon (even though I kind of sucked at Sequence and took forever to take my turn..haha) , went downtown, I showed Jeremy the beautifulness of Qdoba and got him addicted (it's my goal in life to convince everyone of it's awesomeness!), got some steak (and were shown how un-informed we are a bout the cuts of steak), and he kind of sorta taught me how to drive stick shift! Completely on accident, the emergency brake happened to be on at first (not my fault), and so the engine started smoking..But besdies that, I think I did decent for a beginner! He's just about my favorite person, so I was happy he came out! It was fun to see him and I'm really excited to get back to Provo to see him again!

Anyways. That's my life. Now I"m just looking forward to Daniel and Charbel's wedding! That's the next exciting thing of my summer!

What? You're from the Prison?

I haven't blogged for awhile. I've been working on this for a few days. I finally decided it was time to post.

Finally, after 2+ months of searching for one (unless you count the hours I spent filling out applicatinos online before I even got back from school), I finally got a job. A man in my stake needed someone to work for his company for two weeks because they were swamped. And, for once, fate was on my side, a friend of mine gave him my name, he called me, and lo and behold, he offered me the job. It pays really well (11.75! woo hoo!), and came in the nick of time. I had 50 dollars to my name in my bank account. And about 90 dollars in cell phone/gym membership fees to pay. I'm still wondering how I was planning on that working out (that's what a credit cards for, right?). Anyways, I've been working there for about a week, and it's quite the interesting environment. Completely the polar opposite of the clinic I worked at last semester (and for sure have back for the Fall! yay!) Just a few things that have happened, or that I've thought of, over the past week that I feel worth mentioning.

--The company I work for is called Prizm. When I answer the phone, or call someone, I typically say "This is Katie from Prizm". Honestly, 9 out of 10 people are like "Prison? You're calling from Prison?" My favorite was this old man...I was like "Hi, is Audrey there?" And he's like "Yes, who's calling?" And I'm like...It's Katie...From Prizm! And he's like WHAT! Katie from Prison?! And I'm like no, Prizm. And he's like "Audrey, someone's callling from Prison for you!?" It made me laugh
--Another funny one happened today...I answered the phone, and the woman was like "Prison? I don't know ANYONE in Prison!". And It was even funnier because she had a sweet southern accent.
--Like I mentioned, totally different environment than my sheltered BYU job. I think I've heard the F-word more in my life than ever before (I work by the customer service/claims department, which is about 25 men, aged 25-35). People take smoking breaks. Honestly, I think I am the only person there that doesn't smoke. At the clinic it was kind of shocking to hear someone say Darn or Fetch (okay, no one ever said Fetch, and it wasn't that shocking when they said Darn..but that's besides the point). People took breaks to go across the street to the Creamery and get ice cream.
--The other day my boss and another co-worker came up and were like "Katie do you want to go to a Rockies game with us on Friday." I, unfortunately, had to decline as I would be in Idaho. But secretly I let out a sigh of relief. Yes, I would love to go to a baseball game with a bunch of 35-50 year old men, who would likely be drinking the whole time. That's my favorite pasttime! haha. Just kidding. It sure was nice of them to ask.
--I have to ride the light rail from Littleton to Downtown every day. There are some very interesting characters on there. I'm always afraid there's going to be a terrorist attack (too much 24, maybe?). There are like 5o blind people that ride it in the morning. One of them almost got hit by the lightrail. Scariest thing of my life
--The lightrail has some funny signs on it. Like "No Gambling". I was disappointed, because I always bring along my poker table to play on the way to work. I guess I'll just have to do that under the table (ha ha ha)
--This is my question of the century. Why, when there are about 50 open seats, entices someone to come and sit RIGHT next to me. Not even across from me, but right next to me. I mean, do they not realize there are a million other seats...I mean, I understand if they are one of the blind people, but all the people that do this are creepy old men. Someone was like "Well, why don't you just sit on the end of the seat so they would have to climb over you, making it a lot more difficult?" And my answer for that? I want to sit in the seat next to the window, because I like to look at myself the whole way. Yes, I am vain, but I'm sure you all know that by now.
--Today my boss came up to me and put a fifty dollar bill on my desk. At first I thought it was some kind of "you are so beautiful, thanks for making this office look a little better", but after I realized that probably wasn't it, I just kind of stared at him. He was like, you won the drawing for not being late (being on time is apparently a big problem here). I was like, man, thanks! What made the day even better? I came home andmy 75 dollar check from the Photography Studio I worked at 2 years ago was in the mail. There's 135 (I think that's right?) dollars I didn't think I had.
--Luckily I get to listen to the radio all day. i've recently been converted to 92.5 the Wolf, and as sad as I am to admit this, I kind of like it more than KYGO. Sorry, but Kelly and Mudflap just annoy me. I much prefer the Jesse and Shotgun morning show. Though I'm starting to get sick of the radio. They play the same songs. Over. And Over. It's a little silly

That's about all. The End.
