Sleep. Maybe I should get some.

I love sleep. I think it's the greatest thing ever. However, I never get enough of it. And whose fault is that? Most definitely mine. I stay up far too late, for no reason beyond the fact that I just don't feel like going to bed. I think subconsciously I'm afraid I'll miss something awesome if I go to sleep (because really, every time I do go to bed early, this does happen), so I feel the need to stay awake until everyone in my apartment has turned in for the night. It's so dumb. I mean, there is nothing greater than crawling into bed and cuddling up to go to sleep for the night. And there is nothing worse than hearing an annoying alarm clock go off three hours later, and you realizing what an idiot you were for staying up 'til 3:30 doing absolutely nothing productive. I did this all of winter semester. What did I do til 3:30 in the morning? Oh, I watched seasons 1-6 of 24, while my roommate Andrea watched all 50,000 seasons of Friends. I don't even have to tell you how stinkin' cool we were. This year, I just stay up with Cortney (and occasionally Stephanie). Just sitting in our living room (or Cort's room). Typically in complete silence. Doing absolutely nothing. It's a problem.

A few nights ago Cort and I sat on our couch for several hours, talking completely incoherantly to each other about who knows what for like 3 hours, until 3:30 in the morning. I still don't know why. I'm pretty sure for about an hour of that, we were just saying "I just don't want to get off the couch and go to my bed." Since our rooms are SO far away...

The past few nights, I've stayed up late chatting with different people on Skype or facebook chat. Why is it that the most interesting conversations have to start past midnight? And who says nothing good happens after midnight...Pshhhh.

Well, this whole "lack of sleep" thing is starting to affect me.

Example #1:
On Monday, the day after break, I only got a few hours of sleep. I got up at 7:30, got ready in 5 minutes, and went to work. Pretty sure anyone that walked past the receptionist desk for surely thought I was hopped up on something crazy, as my eyes were pretty glazed over and my response time...wasn't very good. Anyways. I had two classes that day. Definitely fell asleep in both of them. (random tidbit that has nothing to do with anything. That day in New Testament, this girl sat next to me. I realized it was the girl I was supposed to be roommates with last year, but I decided to switch out before I even met her because I thought she was crazy. I don't know if she recognized me. But I was scared). And then I fell asleep in the library. A friend of mine suggested that "even sleeping beauty was awake when she met her prince" and MAYBE that is the reason why I haven't gotten any dates there...hmmm possibly. Though, a random guy did sit next to me that day. Maybe I'm more attractive when I'm asleep.

Example #2:
Yesterday, after I got home from the gym, I decided to take a shower because I was going to a work party a little while later (and because I was kind of gross from the gym. In case you were wondering.) I grabbed my face wash, squirted some in my hand, and proceeded to wash my face. Oh wait, no I didn't. I put it in my hair. Scrubbed it in. It didn't even dawn on me that I was doing this until I felt my hair feeling slightly odd. I just kind of stood there, realizing what I had just done. Pretty sure that was a fail.

Don't worry, I rewashed it with my real shampoo.

Example #3:
This morning my alarm clock went off. You know, like it normally does. Well, I guess I didn't realize it was going off. I just laid there for at least a minute, wondering what that ANNOYING beeping sound was. I honestly started to get ticked off. Why the heck was there a beeping noise going off while I was trying to sleep? I started to think it was some kind of construction going on. Then I realized it was my phone. But of course, I didn't think it was my alarm clock. I thought that someone was calling me, over, and over again. I couldn't understand why someone would be calling me so early. You know, since my ringtone is an annoying beeping noise and all. Doesn't anyone have any dignity anymore? So I stuffed my phone number my pillow in hopes that it would drown out the sound. No luck. At that point I was starting to be a little more coherent and decided to open my eyes (yes I had been doing all this with my eyes closed. Honestly, I pretty much think I was asleep for this). When I did this, imagine my surprise to see that it was 7:00, and it was my alarm going off the whole time. Sorry, Hilary, if this woke you up.

Example #4:
I went to Gold's yesterday. They usually have this little key holder so you don't have to carry around your keys while working out. It wasn't there. However, there was a sign that said "Due to liability issues, we no longer have this...blah blah". I took this as "Put your keys here at your own risk", and just put my keys down there. Imagine my surprise when I came back after working out to discover that my keys were gone. I was like, "Hey gym employee, where the heck are my keys." The guy just looked at me, and pointed at the sign, and then took my keys out from behind the desk. So dumb.

Even then, I set my alarm clock for 730 so I could have 30 more minutes of sleep. This caused me to have about 10 minutes to get out the door. Luckily, my hair was still curled from the night before, so I just ran a brush through it, and my hair actually looks better than it normally does on Mondays and Wednesday. I didn't have time to eat though. So I got a bowl of cereal, filled it with milk, and brought it in the car with me. Pretty sure it was dangerous to do so. But I only ate it while I was at stop lights. The real challenge was making sure it didn't spill as I turned corners. I didn't want to leave a bowl full of milk in my car all day though, so I mustered up all the strength and drank that milk. Bleh. Drinking milk=nasty. Now I just have a dirty bowl sitting in my car. Hopefully I'll remember to take that in....

Anyways.

So I could blame a couple of these things on the fact that I'm just kind of dumb and blond, as I'll be the first to admit I can be a bit...slow at times (i.e. For the longest time, I truly believed that gullible was taken out of the dictionary. I didn't understand why!) But, I really think it's the sleep thing. I'll be going to bed earlier from now on (except that I won't. I get my second wind at about 12:30 and can't get to sleep).

I apologize to anyone that has had a weird conversation with me in the wee hours of the morn, or witnessed me acting "high", as several people have put it, because of the lack of sleep. I am consciously aware of the things I'm doing and saying, but somehow I don't have a filter at these times and can't completely control it. Let's just not talk about how I was acting on Sunday night/morning. Just to dismiss any rumors, I have not and never will be on any type of drugs, alcohol, weed, etc. that causes me to be this way. I'm just weird.

So I got my work schedule for next semester. Less hours, which I'm very happy about. But. I work Tuesday nights. again. hsaljgsldgksja. It's like someone doesn't want me to watch the Biggest Loser.

In other news, I have photic sneeze reflex. Awesome, right? I've always wanted a genetic defect. I wonder if I could get a scholarship.

i am a little worried about you! don't drive while sleepy...imagine the catastrophe!! be careful! lol and staying up late with roommates is so fun, you will always remember the memories!

bahaha, I did notice it beeping, but I just laid there and tried to figure out if it was the oven beeping or the smoke alarm or construction outside or what, and then I saw you take out your phone. it was funny =D

I think being a night owl runs in the family. I can't even tell you the number of times I have stayed up way too late and been so mad at myself the next morning when my alarm went off, swearing that I will never stay up that late again only to do the same thing the next night. Lol

1. I used to stay up waaaaay too late. Same thing. Up until 3:30 or so. It was fun but I would always do the most pointless things.

2. I hate when I hear a beeping noise and I think I'm dreaming so it takes me forever to figure out its my alarm.

3. I totally eat cereal and milk in the car all the time! It's hard to try not and spill the milk though. Sometimes I just put it in a large cup instead of a bowl. It's more car friendly. And I hate drinking cereal milk too so I always dump it out in a parking lot when I get to where I'm going...prob gross that I do that but meh.

4. That guy at the gym took your keys only to prove a point? Do you still see that cute guy at the gym that helped sign you up?

i realize that every comment of mine mentions how i miss you....but nothing has made me miss you more! haha we had some excellent times in the wee hours of the night! Well...I remember them anyway ;) Love you and your sleepy ways

Try to get some sleep! I always stay up way too late, too...but maybe you could take a nap? Sometimes I resorted to that in college and it felt so good

If you ever have cereal and milk in the car again, you should just dump the milk out in the parking lot...it won't hurt anything I don't think. :)

Haha--I bet you're surprised to be getting a comment from me so long after you wrote this! But as I was reading your list of blogs I didn't recognize this one, and I"m so glad I read it because it really made me laugh! You're funny! And I never knew you met your almost roommmate--do you think she recognized you, too?
