Cocoa Bean Cafe

A few months ago, I noticed an influx of cupcake shops. I would see people blogging, tweeting, and facebooking about them. Whenever I heard of a new one, I couldn't help but scoff. A cupcake shop? Really? Who in their right mind would go and drop some dollars on a "gourmet cupcake", when you could buy a perfectly good box of Betty Crocker cake mix and frosting and make lots of cupcakes for like two dollars? I didn't get it.

Well, back in January, the Daily Universe featured an article on a new business that was opening in Provo, minutes away from my apartment. It was called The Cocoa Bean Cafe. After reading the first few sentences of the article I soon found out that this was a new cupcake/drink shop. Despite my hesitations, I continued reading the article. I soon became extremely enthralled, and by the end of the article, I was craving one of the delicious cupcakes and yummy drinks described. I was a bit embarrassed to admit it, as I had been such a critic of them in the past. I googled the company and soon came across their blog. The fact that they had a blog made them so much more legitimate in my mind. After looking through some posts, pictures, and the flavors of the cupcakes and drinks, I knew I had to try it out. So after I was done with class, I drove over to the cute little cafe in Brigham's landing. No one was there except for one employee, who I later found out was the co-owner. He immediately greeted me and handed me a menu, while briefing me on the types of items available. The cupcakes that were available that day were displayed in a clear case, and it took me awhile to decide which one to try. Finally, I decided on the "Better than Almost Everything" cupcake, mainly because I'm pretty positive it mimics one of my favorite cakes. I also decided that I might as well get a drink while I was there. They have lots of different hot and cold drinks that sounded delicious, and non of them are caffenianted! I opted for a Carmel Cocoa Bean Frappe. So good! The environment is super relaxing, and I didn't feel like a total goon for just sitting there by myself (but be assured, I wasn't completely comfortable). The cupcake was huge though and I couldn't finish it. But after that one visit, I was converted.

About a week later, I went to the bi-annual bridal fair that is held at Provo High School. Imagine my delight when I saw that Cocoa Bean was there, with mini cupcakes! It was totally worth the whole trip.

Then a few weeks ago, Rachael, Matt, Forrest and I went on a double date to Comedy Sportz (which, if you haven't gone, is hilarious), afterwards we went to get cupcakes. There weren't very many choices left, as it was approaching closing time, but I still enjoyed my "lucious lemon bluberry cupcake". Forrest and I both got Italian Sodas which were delicious. However, I still couldn't finish mine. So the next time we went, Forrest and I shared one. That was a much better idea.

So overall, best place ever. Don't be like me and judge cupcakes. Just start eating them now.

Totally out of character, but I only have one picture I've taken at this place. Okay, I lied. There are like two. But I refuse to ever let anyone see the one that was taken of me. Nasty Sauce. So, here is Matt and Forrest's first taste of the cupcakes. Trust me, they were excited. (Hopefully they don't care too much that I used this picture of them looking awesome...haha).

And in case you are wondering, the boy on the above right is Forrest Clark. I've mentioned him in passing in some of my past blogs, and in case you aren't a major facebook stalker of mine, or in my family, he is my boyfriend. And he's super cute/awesome/cool (even though my opinion on "coolness" doesn't count). We've been dating about a month (super long, I know), but I've decided that it was about time I write about him on my blog. Just so strangers can know about my life. And maybe so when Forrest googles himself, something exciting comes up rather than the things we found the other night. That is why I put his last name. Please don't stalk him. Only I am allowed to do that (haha jokes!). But, he's pretty darn great, and he makes me happy and smile a lot. Basically, I feel rather lucky to know him. He's a keeper. And a returned missionary. And he's from the South. What more could anyone ask for?! :) Here is a picture of us. It was snowing. That's quite possibly why I look gross and have a red nose. Or maybe I just always look weird. But yes. He's definitely quite the wonderful guy. :)

I was not paid nor asked to endorse the Cocoa Bean Cafe. I just wrote about it, because I'm obsessed. I have to write that cuz of some new blogger rules, yes?

I saw that place, but I never knew what it was. Maybe I"ll have to take a look. How do you know what the new blogging rules are? Since my blog is private and has very few readers i'm assuming that I don't have to follow them..

I'm so jealous! I wish I had gourmet cupcake places around me because I'd so drop some dollars on them. No shame.
