Conference weekend!

Alright, this is the third and final post of the night (I expect you to read, and comment, all of them. Even though most of you won't. Oh well). Time for bed!

This was such a wonderful weekend! A few years ago I doubt I would have ever thought I would be saying, but I love General Conference weekend (it's not like I didn't want to hear the Prophet and Apostles speak...just the idea of sitting for 4 hours in one day wasn't something I really enjoyed down). This weekend I watched all four sessions of conference, and there were so many wonderful talks given! I watched yesterdays sessions on my laptop, which was nice. All of my roommates except for Andrea abandoned us (they are so mean, I know), so I had no where to go. (In Utah, General Conference is like a holiday I swear) So I basically stayed in my pajamas all day. Which, if it was socially acceptable, I would do every day, regardless of where I have to go. I love pajamas. But that's besides the point. In the break between sessions, I made banana bread. Which I make far too often for my own good, but I have to say, it's the most delicious thing in the world. Props to Cindy for the recipe! haha. The second session of conference was equally as fulfilling. The rest of the day was uneventful. Until about midnight. Andrea had gone to bed early, but I couldn't sleep, so I was just on my computer checking blogs, facebook, etc. when my friend Donovan calls, so out of respect for my sleeping roommate, I go out in the kitchen. As soon as I shut the door to our room, I think "Oh crap. I left the door locked I think." So I go back, and lo and behold, the door is locked and I have no keys. I become sad, thinking about my lonely night on the couch with no blanket, and being scared out of my mind that someone is gonna come in and kill me (Even in Happy Valley, it could happen!). Right as I'm about to lay down, I just decide to try and texting Andrea one last time. And it wakes her up! yay! So we end up talking for like 3 years about the most random stuff, but it was way fun! I love late night conversations :-D

The next morning we leave about 8:30 for Salt Lake. Me and Daniel both agree that drive feels so long, even though its only 45 minutes long. It seriously feels like so much longer! Cindy and AJ weren't home, but they were so nice and let us hang out at their apartment for the day! That morning we watched conference at their apartment, and it was so good! There were SO many good talks, I loved it. It's been a few weeks since conference, so I don't have the talks all that fresh in my mind, but this was definitely one of my favorite sessions of conference. I think from all the talks over the two days that were given, my favorite was the talk about Angels that Jeffrey R. Holland gave. I definitely recommend readin it.

Daniel was laying on the floor. He ate a random tortilla filled with spaghetti. Weird, I know. Almost as weird as my roommate Christie eating a noodle quesadilla. Daniel fell asleep. The end.

Believe it or not, these pictures were POSED. She said she was awake all of conference, but I'm pretty sure she was asleep. Or else the couch was snoring. You choose!

It's really no secret that I love taking pictures of myself. I'm considering becoming a self portraitess for my profession. Because everyone wants lots of self portraits of me. I took like 30, but I felt like I needed to be less vain and only post one. My skin looks really white in this picture. Maybe I'm a vampire (because they are really beautiful). I read too much Twilight...I should probably enrich myself with something more wholesome, like the Children of the Promise.lol
.

This is the hill of death. Seriously, I might even compare it to the stairs of death that lead up from the SFH and RB (for all those who aren't BYU literate...those are the gym buildings at BYU, and they have the longest staircase ever leading up from them). It might not look that big (okay who am I kidding, this picture makes it look flat), but boy, it was steep. It's kind of ridiculous.

Daniel hates this picture, but I like it. So I'm putting it on here. Sorry Daniel, you can post a bad picture of me on your blog now (but seriously, is there such thing as a bad picture of me?) My arm looks grossly huge in this picture though. Yuck. The Conference Center is pretty though!

Here we are in the Conference Center! Yay! We had...okay seats. haha. Seriously though, I really don't think there is a bad seat in there. It's so cool just being there! There were these weird people in front of us that kept kissing, and whenever any of the speakers said anything about marriage, they were all giggly. They were totally newly weds!

So here are just some random pictures from the rest of the day! I just love the Salt Lake City Temple. It is SO beautiful! I really want to go back at Christmas time to see Temple Square all lit up!

Okay to end this post, I have to post this video. I thought it was kind of cool. So obviously, there are always tons of protestors outside of the Conference Center during General Conference (seriously, if anything, all they are doing is proving the Church is true..I mean, how many other Churches have so many people trying to disprove them?). There was this guy, and he was just saying random stuff that didn't even make sense. In the first session of conference, Elder Hales), gave a great talk about showing those who persecute us love. I think my favorite thing he said was "To love our enemies takes faith and strength and most of all Christian courage." Seriously, it takes so much effort to turn the other cheek, especially when people are tryin to prove the Church false. Anyways, while this guy was protesting, this other guy, who was obviously LDS, went up to him, shook his hand and looked like he was truly trying to show this guy respect and "Christian Courage". I actually got it on video, which was pretty cool. Definitely an example to follow :)

Oh, and a totally random side note. There is a gold car in the back of this video, and it just happened to be the car that Jared was in. Of all the people that were in Salt Lake at that moment, what are the chances? haha. I thought it was funny!

Why is it called the Fall Fest if it took place in September?

This is a really old post that I started a long time ago, so I felt it was time to unveil it to the Blogger World. Woooooo!

On the same night as my ward's talent show, the BYUSA (The student association) put on the annual "Fall Fest". I went with Cortney, Rachael, Josh, and Jeff. It was way fun! There was food, games, inflatables, laser tag (even though we didn't get there to do it!), a dance, and much more! It was nice just to get away from homework (or..attempting to do homework..hehe), and hang out with my friends!

During the dance, Jeff (the one with the brown hair) said that he hates when people take pictures while dancing because they never turn out well. Coincidentally, he is the only one who looks somewhat normal in either of these pictures. Maybe next time I want to look good in a picture, I'll talk about how bad that particular picture always turns out ;-)

As I mentioned, there were inflatables obstacle courses at this thing! I went through once, and went against Cortney, but then I deemed myself official photographer for Jeff and Josh's competitions because they kept fighting over who won. These are a couple of their crash landings..haha. I believe Jeff won this round!

After the dance we sat around on a hill for awhile just trying to decide what to do. That, in itself, was pretty exciting. I thought this was kind of a cool picture, just cuz his shoe looks freaking intense in the air right there!

Rachael fell down the hill. I wasn't able to get it while it happened, but she so kindly reenacted it. I believe, that in the process, she fell again. Oh how I love her.

So later on, we decided to take some jumping pictures. Classic, I know. These are just some of my favorite ones that turned out (Since I was the only one with a camera, I'm not in any of the pictures, which is fine, because I am definitely deficient when it comes to these types of pictures...Well, not that any of them were that good ;-) )

After we got bored of sitting on the hill (and me scaring off some poor boy..haha that's another story though!), we went back to my apartment for ice cream! I wasn't really in the mood for icecream, so I ate grapes. Creamery grapes are so good!

Josh was so nice and cleaned up all the dishes from the ice cream everyone ate! I'm supposed to make him dinner one of these days...lol

Here's those delicious grapes I was talking about. I'm looking beautiful as usual. Rachael tends to enjoy making faces in every picture she ever takes. She's pretty special, I'm not gonna lie. We have communications together, so there is definitely never a dull moment in that class (especially when we are talking about people and don't realize they are right by us..hehe) Audrey was trying out one of those delicious mint chocolate creamies. Thanks again for Cindy for discovering those!

Don't be shocked by these next pictures. I am at BYU now. But seriously, the Creamery is just asking for pictures like this when they sell Martinelli's sparkling cider. There was some serious effort that went into getting that bottle open...What a fun night though. Never a dull moment at BYU!!!!!!

A "Major" Decision...for now

This semester I have been enrolled in a Dance Aerobics class. I love it! You know all of those corny workout videos? Well, that's basically how my class is! My teacher is way enthusiastic, and each class we do a different kind of workout and listen to fun, upbeat music! At the end of each class, we do a series of stretches, crunches, sit ups, and yes, pushups. In one of my previous blogs I mentioned how I couldn't do pushups for the life of me, thus being the reason I ruled out an Exercise and Wellness major. Honestly, I have no idea why I can't do a pushup. I never been able to though. I take comfort in the fact that most of my friends can't either, but still. Even the girl pushups, I'm not too good at them! But the full fledged, army type pushups? I don't even attempt those anymore! haha. But anyways, back to the major thing. Since being at BYU, I have been juggling back and forth between a major in Communications with an emphasis in Print Journalism OR Exercise and Wellness. This semester I have been taking a Communications class, and I absolutely love it! However, I really love exercising and health, so I thought maybe that could be the path for me. Well, I looked at the classes for E&W, and for the most part, they all seemed like excellent classes. Until I noticed you have to take several physiology and anatomy classes. I Hate Science! Kristalyn informed me that some of those classes involve dead people, and I'm not really into that whole human cadaver thing. Still, at this point I was still considering the major. Then, I took Dance Aerobics, and once again was reminded of my lack of ability in doing pushups. At that point, I decided that I would be better off majoring in Print Journalism! It may seem like a lame reason not to do a major, but combined with the whole science factor, I figured communications might be a better choice! I really do love my Comms class and I'm really hoping I will get accepted into the program by the end of my Freshman year! I did discover a minor in nutrition, and I decided I want that as my minor! All of the classes seem really interesting, and guess what? No dead people involved! I'm taking one of the nutrition classes next semester, as well as my remaining two pre-reqs for Communications! I'm so excited :-) Hopefully this will be my final decision, but I'm so indescive, check back in a year and maybe it'll be different! As for now, I'm set!

You never miss something til it's gone

Forewarning: As I wrote this blog, the song "You're So Vain" started playing on my music player. Coincidence? I think not. If you really hate seeing pictures of me, I would recommend NOT reading on. Because this blog is in no way lacking those. It may make you even think I'm self centered and only care about myself. And could you be right? Nah. Of course not! I just was contemplating all of this, and thought I should write about it for my own sake. hehe

It's official--I am never cutting my hair short again. Okay, so shoulder length isn't exactly the shortest ever, but compared to how long my hair was, it was quite a dramatic change. Even though I cut my hair back in July or August, it has just begun setting in recently how much I miss my long hair! I've been sorting through some pictures, putting them into albums, reminiscing on old times, and through the process, I realized how long my hair was. When I decided to take the plunge and chop off my locks, I thought that it would be much easier to deal with and style. Well, it sure is easier to straighten, because it takes like 20 minutes shorter, but the styling part? Oh boy, was I wrong. I can't seem to figure out how to style it when it's short or long. Why was I born without the hair styling gene? I mean, when looking at my mom and seeing all of her many styles back when she was a teenager, you'd think I'd know more than I do! Back in June I bought a set of curlers, and when I used them, I LOVED how my hair looked. I can't really use them right now cuz my hair looks like a big poof ball afterwards. Just so all of you who didn't see the blessed day that I first tried em out, here's a picture:I'm not gonna lie, after looking at these pictures, I have decided that when my hair is long again, I must have some more depth and layers to it, so it's not just all one length. And maybe I don't want it quite as long as it was..maybe two-three inches longer than it is right now. I think I want to get some sideswept bangs as well. I'm not sure. I'm so darn indescive. Cuz I'm looking at pictures of my shorter hair now, and I think it looks not bad. I'm really thinking those bangs. Well, just for a trip down memory lane, here are some pictures of me with long hair. And then some as my hair currently is. What do you prefer? What kind of hair style should I go for next? Like I said..I'm thinking 2 1/2 inches longer, but layers and bangs. But what do I know; I have no knowledge when it comes to what looks good. Help!

(And most of these pictures are very strange, but they showed off my hair at different lengths the best..haha)

And now for the short

I just love tags!

The rules are:
* Link to the person who tagged you
* Post the rules on your blog
* Write six random things/unspectacular quirks about yourself
* Tag six people at the end of your post
* Let each person you have tagged know by leaving a comment on their blog
* Let the tagger know when your entry is posted

Well, Jared posted this on his blog and he tagged anyone that wanted to do that. Basically, that's me.

I shall now write six random things/unspectacular quirks about myself.

1. The reason why I decided not to major in Exercise and Wellness is because I can't do a push-up to save my life. And it just seems like you'd have to know how to do that in order to major in an exercise based major! (more on this in a later blog...it's deserving of its own post)

2. Since being at college, I can count the number I've days I've been asleep by midnight on my hand. I'd say the average bedtime is 2. Don't worry, I'm always doing important things (like facebook, blog stalking, MSN messenger chatting, repeatedly checking my email, interesting conversations with Andrea..ya know, all the essentials of life.)

3. I hate driving. More than anything else in the whole entire world. My secret goal in life is to marry someone really rich and get myself a chauffeur so I never have to drive on a road thats not within 5 minutes of my own house. I guess that goal isn't so secret anymore. Any takers? ;-)

4. I can't go to bed without taking a shower. Even if its 3 AM in the morning, I will not fall asleep if I haven't taken a shower (except in extreme cases like I'm staying at someones house for the night or I'm camping...because it's not always possible to do that)

5. Whenever it rains, I play the song “When It Rains” by Eli Young Band, over and over again. I'm not really quite sure why. You can listen to the song on my music player at the bottom of my page. Oh, and I love gloomy weather. I'd take a cloudy, 40-50 degree day, over a sunny hot afternoon ANY day of the year. Maybe I've read too much Twilight ;-)

6. One day I would love to own my own catering business. Yep. I love to cook. I love to bake. And it's something I could do on the side while staying home with my kids someday (granted I get married...to my rich husband who will provide me with a chauffeur..who am I kidding, of course I will!!!

Well, I tag anyone that wants to do this. So basically, if you're reading this statement right now, pretty much you have to repost this. Mmmk? Sisters, brothers, friends, stalkers...Go at it!

Well, you know what they say...

Do unto others...

...As you would have others do unto you

Masterminds behind the initial idea..

And the punks that sought for revenge (somebody didn't listen to conference)

Oh the Joys of BYU!

(I have about 4 blogs in the works...vote for which one you want to read..all 3 of you that comment. tentative titles are..
"General Conference is basically a holiday in Utah"
"Fall Fast"
"Oh Canada..."
"Pancake in a can?! What?!"
"The Saga of Katie and Cortney continues on"
"Living on a Prayer")
